Mosaic Life had a great service saturday day yesterday. service saturday is our bimonthly community service event. we gave away free balloons, tattoos, and glow sticks at the east town street fair.

the ups

• we are definitely becoming known as a church that is involved in serving the community.
• many people came by and asked for info about us some stopped for longer conversations.
• the community association really welcomes us.
• one person came to worship today as a result.

the downs

• people are really cynical about church mainly because of one church in the area that has really dumped on the community in a negative way.
• i was exhausted today and i think it showed in my message.

there a lot of talk today about new this and new that. new church, new church plant, but do we need new evangelicals. i don’t much care for the word but evangelical does serve as a description of one stream of the christian faith. tom sine who heads up mustard seed associates with his wife christine is one of the most holistic writers on the subject of where the church needs reforming as we move into the future. he has posted a copy of his article In Search of an Alternative Future for American Evangelicalism from the current issue of prism magazine on the msa web site. check out this significant addition to the conversation on the future of evangelical christianity.

my heart is breaking right now for the incredible loss of life that is unfolding around the world.

the beheadings in iraq, the civilians death in iraq, suicide bombings in israel, missile attacks in gaza, the genocide in sudan again.

how can the church respond? casting crowns says if we are his hand why aren’t his hands moving?

how can i respond? i admit it feels so overwhelming and i feel so inadequate to respond to the total disregard for human life coming at me across the television screen. but i can’t ignore it.

right now the best i can do i pray. pray for the families and the people sucked into the carnage. pray that god will show me how to respond.
