Virgil,

I agree with you there. It seems odd though that the peace sign which is a near universal symbol is being called a satanic symbol or that the committee that was charged with deciding if the wreath could stay was fired when after concluding that it was merely a seasonal symbol that didn't say anything.

I understand, but it's one thing to contrast the teachings of Christ with the hypocrisy of some Christians, and it's another thing to take a story about a Homeowners Association dispute and turn it unto a Republican Christian bashing fest when the two have absolutely nothing to do with each other.

Virgil,

I don't know that its fair to say it is hypocritical that he does react/respond to something he may not even have know about. I didn't to hear anything about the situation you mention. However the peace wreath story was all over the news (CNN http://www.cnn.com/2006/US/11/27/peace.wreath.ap/index.html) today.

I can't speak to the republican thing but I don't think it is misrepresentation to point out the contrast between how some practice faith and Jesus teaching.

Moby's post is making the rounds in the Emergent blogosphere today, but I want to point out his hypocritical take on what is happening. Not only is he misrepresenting the situation, but he is hypocritically suggesting that "christian republicans" are behind what is happening. The truth is that this is a Homeowner Association's bidding. On the same token, Moby is hypocriticaly ignoring the actions of a Pennsylvania Homeowner Association which attempted to ban a family from displaying a statue of the Blessed Mother outside of their home (see http://www.catholicleague.org/catalyst/2006_catalyst/1006.htm#victory). Only after threats of lawsuits did the Association back down and allowed the Blessed Mother, the ultimate symbol of peace and innocence to be displayed in public. Moby was missing in action. :)
